"Because he has loosed my bowstring and afflicted me, they have cast off restraint before me".
~Job 30:11
Listen, spiritual warfare ain't fun. It ain't pretty. And it definitely ain't cute. Satan does not fight fair, he fights with pettiness. So Monica, why does Satan fight with such viciousness and pettiness? I'm so glad you asked! Satan fights dirty because he has already been doomed and he knows he has lost the war. So in the mean time, he causes strife, hell, and tension to all of these tiny battles. He is miserable. So he wants to bring as many people into his company as possible. Misery loves company, right?
In this scripture above, Job felt useless, defenseless, and aggravated with the loss of his seven sons, his three daughters, his servants, his oxen, his camels, his donkeys, his health, his wealth.
Job was saying a crossbow is useless if the string is broken. Job was saying he felt no protection for himself during this dark season. Job's loss back then is equivalent to losing a multi-million dollar enterprise today. Not only did he lose those he loved most, his livestock, and his staff, he faced battles against his flesh. Satan wanted to take Job out for the count. But not Job's life. Do you know what's worse than losing your life? Your faith. Your hope. You help. Your trust in God. Satan wanted to bring death to Job's faith and trust in God. However, we know at the end of the Book of Job, Satan loses.
Not only did Job maintain his faith in God, his hope in God, and his trust in God, Job was rewarded. God blessed him with seven more sons and seven more daughters. God doubled everything he lost previously. Job lived 140 years on this earth and lived to witness four generations after him.
The difference between Job's time and our time today, is the sacrifice of the Cross. The sacrifice of Jesus. God sent his Son into the world to save us, not to condemn us. He knew that there were battles we could not face alone or on our own. Today, we can look to the cross when we find ourselves in petty battles with an enemy. But we can only win with God and Jesus Christ on our side.
The battle in your marriage, Jesus won on the cross for you. The battle in your finances, Jesus won on the cross for. The battle in your health, Jesus won on the cross for you. The unruly children, Jesus won on the cross for you. The generational curses, Jesus won on the cross for you. The gossip and the liars, Jesus defeated them on the cross for you over 2,000 years ago. It's not to say spiritual warfare is easy, no it isn't easy. It's not a walk in the park. But God is here in the midst with you.
Don't give up on your marriages. Don't give in to sickness. You may not be cured or healed, but Jesus is right there with you. He died for you specifically. And he died for me. Don't let the gossip, rumor, or petty lies get you down. That war is already won.
The Word of God says in Ephesians 6:12 "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places". We are fighting against spirits that can't always been seen with our natural eye but they wreak havoc in our lives. Stand firm on the Word of God and rebuke the adversary.
2 Corinthians 10:5 reads, "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing into captivity to the obedience of Christ". Cast down and rebuke in the name of Jesus and give it to God. You can't fight by yourself!
Father in the name of Jesus, stand in the gap for us where Satan tries to destroy us with his unfair games and his petty deception. Father God dispatch your army of angels to fight for us when we are surrounded by an invisible enemy. Father God protect and shield us from the things we cannot protect our own selves from. Father God take over and abide over our lives. Father God make us strong for these individual battles we constantly fight and face. Father God we thank you for Jesus and His sacrifice on the Cross.
It's in Your Son Jesus name we pray. Amen.
