Dehydration: A Thirst for Righteousness

๐’ข๐‘œ๐‘œ๐’น ๐ธ๐“‹๐‘’๐“ƒ๐’พ๐“ƒ๐‘” ๐“‰๐‘œ ๐’ด๐‘œ๐“Š,

There are clear signs of a dehydrated body. But before diving into the symptoms of dehydration, letโ€™s briefly review what it actually means. Simply put, dehydration is the harmful reduction in the amount of water in the body. This happens when we lose or use more fluids than we take in. Most importantly, dehydration is especially dangerous for babies, children, and the elderly.

Symptoms of dehydration include:

  1. Dry mouth

  2. Lack of tears

  3. Decreased urination

  4. Fast heart rate

  5. Lethargy

  6. Skin that stays pinched when tested

  7. Confusion

  8. Dizziness

  9. And many more

Looking back, I can think of several times when I had to receive IV fluids in the Emergency Roomโ€”only to be told that I hadnโ€™t been drinking enough water. A $500 bill just to hear, โ€œMonica, youโ€™re thirsty. Drink more water.โ€ Yikes!

If you know me, you know my posts are usually much longer. But tonight, I want to keep it simple. To thirst after righteousness means to have a sincere longing for a consistent relationship with God. Relationship. Not religion. Not just showing up on Sabbath mornings or Sunday mornings. Not just singing in the choir. Not just attending Bible study on designated weeknights. Thirsting after God is a feeling thatโ€™s indescribable. Once you drink from God's well, you truly will never thirst again.

Take a look at John 4:4โ€“42. The highlighted verse is John 4:13, which says: โ€œJesus answered, โ€˜Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.โ€

So what does spiritual dehydration look like? Iโ€™m glad you asked!

Signs of spiritual dehydration:

  1. Emptiness

  2. Lack of motivation

  3. Loss of interest or passion, which may lead to or resemble depression

  4. Fatigue

  5. Lack of self-control

  6. Lack of discipline

  7. Feelings of disconnection from God

  8. Poor decision-making

  9. Increased sin

Listen, Iโ€™ve been there and done thatโ€”in multiple seasons of my life. You can definitely recover and get back to a hydrated state. The key(s) to getting those emergency spiritual IV fluids pumping through your soul are:

  1. Reading the Word of God (Psalm 119:105)

  2. Praying fervently and consistently (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

  3. Attending a Bible-teaching church that teaches sound doctrine (Hebrews 10:24โ€“25)

  4. Connecting with other believers in Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:33)

  5. Cleaning up your conversations (Ephesians 4:29)

  6. Focusing on eternal things (Colossians 3:2)

  7. Keeping your mind fixed on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2)

Father in the name of Jesus Christ, I come in agreement with the person reading this prayer. Father I pray for restoration and rehydration in You. Father I pray the reader drink from the fountains of everlasting, so that he / she will never thirst again. I pray for renewed and long lasting relationship in You again. Return to the reader the joy that comes from heaven above. I pray the reader hydrates so they will never thirst again. I send the Spirit of Adoption, in the name of Jesus Christ to every lost and broken soul who is reading this prayer God. I pray their salvation in Your Son, Jesus the Christ, who is my personal Lord and Savior.

In the matchless name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
